New Ulm is a thriving and safe community with outstanding historic and recreational assets and a diverse economy. It has welcoming neighborhoods, excellent education and a high quality of life that meets the needs of both current and future residents.

Let's plan the future! Meet the new Comprehensive Plan

Communities grow and change throughout time. The City of New Ulm is developing a new Comprehensive Plan to guide future development and growth over the next 10 to 20 years.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is a vision of what a city wants to be. It is guide to help shape a city’s future growth, protect what a community values, and enhance what the community wants to improve. 

The comprehensive planning process looks at existing challenges and sets guidelines and policies for future development. The Comprehensive Plan will address land use, transportation, housing, economic development, public utilities, and parks and open spaces.

Using community input, this Plan will outline the future of New Ulm. It will establish goals and policies to move toward that future. This project will focus on implementation and include initiatives that can be started in the near future. It will also identify other initiatives that will take longer to achieve.

Project Steering Committee

The City has established a Project Steering Committee (PSC) to provide feedback, outreach to the community, information and guidance in the development of the Comprehensive Plan.  The PSC consists of members representing a cross-section of the New Ulm community.

 The Project Steering Committee will help promote the Comprehensive Plan and encourage community participation. The PSC works to build community consensus around a vision for the city’s future and how to get there. The PSC also collaborates with the consultant team, as well as local public agencies, non-profit organizations, and civic leaders. 

The PSC meets monthly to discuss plan progress, share project updates, and offer guidance needed at key points through the plan development process.
